Marion Vanzie

Chief Executive Officer

Commander (Ret) Marion Vanzie is a 29-year decorated United States Naval Officer and healthcare information technology executive. During his tenure, he served as a Chief Information Officer, Senior Cyber Security Officer, and Director of Information Technology Enterprise Operations. Marion recently served as the Deputy of the Market Technology Integration Office (MTIO) and Lead Cyber Security Officer for the MTIO at the Defense Health Agency.  He is known as an effective strategist, an innovative enterprise developer and a transformational leader who is responsible for leading a diverse team of cyber security subject matter experts that provide network security oversight for six geographical regions and over 400 Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) cross the Military Health System (MHS).  Marion’s professional expertise has been instrumental in ensuring the MHS enterprise network security is aligned with the DoD Cyber Security operational mission, while leveraging industry best practices.

As the Lead Cyber Security Officer and Market Enterprise Information System Security Manager (ISSM), Marion and his team used an agile approach to address the complex cyber security issues inherent in integrating multiple organizations, cultures and processes. His leadership led to a streamlined, cost effective security solution for all MHS systems and enclaves. This effort will help pave the way for the new MHS Electronic Health Record System and modernize cyber security implementation across the MHS enterprise. 

 

Marion has held numerous senior positions in Navy Medicine to include Chief Information Officer at Military Treatment Facilities and U.S. Navy hospital ship, USNS Comfort. As an agile senior manager, he was responsible for multi-million-dollar budgets, the deployment and sustainment of large network infrastructure, while leading hundreds of IT professionals to provide world class customer service at the President’s Hospital and around the globe. Marion’s Healthcare IT experience is broad.  While attached with NATO Command in Afghanistan, he served as advisor to several Afghan senior military officers and police. His strategic planning and professional guidance led to the development and upgrade of network infrastructure for several healthcare facilities across the country.  

 

Marion is a native of Belize, Central America and moved to the United States in the 1980’s where he attended elementary through high school in Southern California.  In 1991, he joined the U.S. Navy and attended boot camp in San Diego, California. That fall, he was sent up the road to the Naval School of Health Sciences San Diego to attend Hospital Corpsman School and eventually surgical technologist school. In 2006, he was selected to receive his Naval Officer commission via the Navy Medical Service Corps In-service Procurement Program. Marion earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University and Master Degree from Marymount University in Arlington, VA.

 

Marion believes that people are the foundation of an organization and caring for the internal customer first assures a practice that leads to lasting success for the organization and its stakeholders.
